Water is part of everyday life and recreation—but it demands respect. Drowning is fast and silent, and most incidents are preventable when simple controls are applied together. This page provides a concise overview of the essentials before you download the detailed Do’s & Don’ts.
Our approach: layers of protection
1. Active supervision: Designate a Water Watcher and keep constant, distraction-free attention on swimmers—especially children and weak swimmers.
2. Safe places: Choose designated, lifeguarded areas and always swim with a buddy.
3. Barriers at home: Secure pools with four-sided fencing, self-closing, self-latching gates, and alarms to prevent unsupervised access, particularly during non-swim times.
4. Skills and gear: Build strong swim skills. Use properly fitted, approved life jackets in open water and on all boats. Inflatables and toys are not safety devices.
5. Emergency readiness: Keep rescue equipment and first-aid/AED accessible. Learn CPR/AED and practice your site’s Emergency Action Plan.
These fundamentals reduce risk in pools, beaches, marinas, compounds, schools, and events.
